Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 turned into a nightmare when a section of the plane blew out mid-flight, causing chaos as passengers’ belongings were sucked out. The plane, with 171 passengers and 6 crew members, made an emergency landing in Portland just 35 minutes after departure.

According to reports, the Boeing 737-9 Max, which recently obtained its airworthiness certificate, experienced the frightening incident shortly after takeoff from Portland International Airport.

Passengers described the chaos as items were pulled out of the gaping hole in the plane, with one passenger recounting the need to hold a child in his seat.

Alaska Airlines, in a statement, mentioned the incident but did not provide further details. Following the event, the airline temporarily grounded its fleet of 65 Boeing 737-9 aircraft as a precautionary measure.

Alaska Airlines CEO Ben Minicucci stated that each aircraft would undergo complete maintenance and safety inspections before being returned to service.

The plane’s safe emergency landing, despite the terrifying ordeal, was confirmed by American Airlines and airport officials.

The incident has sparked concerns about the safety of the Boeing 737-9 Max, leading to the airline’s decision to prioritize safety inspections before returning the aircraft to service.
