SpaceX’s highly anticipated test flight of its mega rocket Starship on Saturday encountered a setback as both the booster and spacecraft were lost minutes into the mission. The booster successfully propelled the rocketship towards space, but communication was abruptly lost eight minutes after liftoff from South Texas, leading to SpaceX declaring the vehicle’s failure. The trouble arose as the ship’s engines were nearing completion of their firing sequence to establish an around-the-world trajectory. Minutes prior, the booster exploded, but not before fulfilling its purpose of setting the ship on a course towards space. Standing at a towering height of 400 feet, Starship holds the distinction of being the largest and most powerful rocket ever built. The previous test flight in April ended in an explosion shortly after liftoff. SpaceX has since made numerous improvements to the booster, its 33 engines, and the launch pad, demonstrating their commitment to advancing space exploration.
