Introducing The OWL by OWL Sport: USA Pickleball’s certified quiet paddle, reducing noise and enhancing recreational play.
USA Pickleball, the National Governing Body for the sport, has taken a significant step forward in addressing noise issues associated with pickleball. The organization recently announced the certification of its first product in the “Quiet Category” for recreational pickleball equipment: The OWL by OWL Sport. This revolutionary initiative aims to reduce the sport’s sound output and recognize products that minimize noise without compromising performance.
The OWL, developed by OWL Sport, is the first-ever USA Pickleball quiet category-compliant paddle sanctioned for recreational use. It has been proven to reduce noise by 50 percent, meeting USA Pickleball’s rigorous certification criteria. Unlike traditional paddles that produce a high-pitched sound when striking the ball, The OWL delivers a hertz level below 600 and a decibel level below 80. This breakthrough innovation allows players to enjoy the game without disturbing sound-sensitive locations.
USA Pickleball’s Quiet Category provides guidance to manufacturers, encouraging them to develop products that significantly reduce acoustic propagation during recreational play. The organization also offers relief specifications for products designed for non-sanctioned events. Furthermore, USA Pickleball is launching an incentive program to foster the development of noise-reduced solutions in the Competition-Certified Category.
Mike Nealy, USA Pickleball Chief Executive Officer, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration with OWL Sport and the launch of their certified Quiet Category paddle. This partnership represents a significant milestone in USA Pickleball’s ongoing efforts to provide acoustic solutions for sound-sensitive locations.
OWL paddles are now available for order, offering superior playability, durability, and comfort features such as vibration dampening layers. The introduction of this certified Quiet Category paddle marks USA Pickleball’s commitment to advancing acoustic research and programs, ensuring the sport can be enjoyed in a variety of settings while minimizing noise disturbances.
