Virgin Galactic is set to make history with its upcoming private astronaut mission, ‘Galactic 02,’ which aims to broaden access to space. Scheduled to open on August 10, 2023, this mission will carry three private passengers, including the first Olympian and the first astronaut from Antigua.

Among the crew is 80-year-old Jon Goodwin, an early Virgin Galactic ticket holder and an inspiration to many. Goodwin, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2014, sees this opportunity to go to space as a way to defy adversity and inspire others facing challenges.

Keisha Schahaff and Anastatia Mayers, a mother-daughter duo from the Caribbean, won their seats through a draw that raised funds for the non-profit organization Space for Humanity. Their participation highlights the increasing accessibility of space travel and the breaking down of barriers that once existed.

Virgin Galactic’s mission is to open space travel to a more diverse population. They have cultivated a Future Astronaut community of over 800 individuals representing more than 60 nations.

By live-streaming the flight on VirginGalactic.com, the company aims to inspire people worldwide and demonstrate that space is now more accessible. The transformative experience of seeing Earth from space, known as The Overview Effect, holds the potential to unite humanity and tackle pressing global challenges.

This historic mission marks a significant step towards Virgin Galactic’s mission of democratizing space travel and inspiring a new generation of explorers. It showcases the power of determination, inclusivity, and the human spirit to transcend boundaries and reach for the stars.
