Hollywood Sign Gets a Face Lift

The iconic 45-foot lettering that sits just below the summit of Mount Lee, overlooking the Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, will get a sprucing up before the celebration of its centennial anniversary.
Los Angeles – It originally spelled out Hollywoodland when it was constructed in 1923 as part of an advertising campaign for a local real estate development. The sign was supposed to stay erected, temporarily, for a year and a half. The hillside sign became popular with local residence and the film industry that made its home in and around Hollywood.
The sign went through a few periods of deterioration, but the first time was after twenty-five years, in 1949, when the sign was so badly deteriorated, that there were a few thoughts of demolishing it. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, who today holds the trademark to the sign won its protest against demolition. The City of Los Angeles Parks Department agree to restore, but removed the LAND lettering to reflect the neighborhood, leaving the 350-foot Hollywood Sign we are familiar with today.
The sign became one of the most familiar sights in Los Angeles and had seen many things over the years, including practical jokes and protests. It was restored in 2012.
The facelift will include 400 gallons of paint, and restoration is supposed to conclude in November, just in time for the 100 year anniversary of the iconic landmark in 2023.

As Splash Mountain closes, it will undergo a transformation into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, a whimsical attraction inspired by The Princess and the Frog.
Splash Mountain is a log ride at Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland. It was formerly located in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom before closing in January 2023. The ride is based on the animated sequences of the 1946 Disney film Song of the South. Although there are variations in the story and features between the two locations, each installation begins with a peaceful outdoor float-through that leads to indoor dark ride segments, with a climactic steep drop into a “briar patch” followed by an indoor finale. The drop is 52.5 feet.
In June 2020, it was announced that the U.S. versions of the ride would be receiving a new theme based on Disney‘s 2009 film The Princess and the Frog. The new ride, which will be titled Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, is scheduled to open at Disneyland and Magic Kingdom in late 2024. The Magic Kingdom version of Splash Mountain closed on January 23, 2023. The closing date for the Disneyland version has yet to be announced. (wikipedia)

The aim of the day is to have fun all day long saying exactly the opposite of what you really mean. This day has kids rejoicing everywhere. HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL BIRD DAY
There are several ways to celebrate this day.
- Pick up a bird identification book. It will help you learn about species in your area and identify those frequenting your bird feeders.
- Enhance the attraction of your backyard. Add feeders, shelter, and more. Learn what birds in your area like to eat and watch them flock to your sanctuary.
- Donate to a bird sanctuary or aviary dedicated to improving the survival of endangered birds.
- While you’re learning about all the fantastic species, visit an aviary. Also, a botanical garden, zoo, or conservation area may offer close-up viewing of some of the more exotic species you’ve never seen before.
