Lemon Pepper Chicken – A Simple and Delicious Recipe
Chicken is a versatile and tasty meat that can be cooked in various ways, and one of the easiest and most flavorful ways to prepare it is by making lemon pepper chicken. This recipe only requires a few basic ingredients and minimal preparation, yet it yields a mouthwatering dish that’s perfect for a quick and satisfying meal.
To make lemon pepper chicken, you’ll need boneless, skinless chicken breasts, olive oil, lemon pepper seasoning, salt, garlic powder, paprika, and a lemon. The lemon pepper seasoning is the star of the show here, as it provides a zesty and slightly spicy flavor that pairs well with the mild taste of the chicken.
To start, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and mix the lemon pepper seasoning, salt, garlic powder, and paprika in a small bowl. Then, rub the chicken breasts with olive oil and coat them with the spice mixture on both sides. Place the chicken in a baking dish and add lemon slices to the dish for extra flavor and aroma.
Bake the chicken in the oven for 25-30 minutes or until it’s fully cooked and has reached an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). Once done, remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving. The result is tender, juicy chicken with a crispy and flavorful crust that’s sure to impress your taste buds.
This lemon pepper chicken recipe is not only delicious, but it’s also healthy and nutritious. Chicken is a lean source of protein that’s low in fat and calories, while the lemon and spices provide antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that are beneficial for your health.
You can serve your lemon pepper chicken with a side of vegetables, rice, or pasta for a complete and satisfying meal. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to three days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
In conclusion, lemon pepper chicken is a simple and delicious recipe that’s perfect for busy weeknights or lazy weekends. With its bold and zesty flavor, it’s sure to become a family favorite that you’ll want to make again and again.

Bring the Family Together with Breakfast for Dinner
Despite busy lives and full schedules, finding time for regular meals with loved ones encourages connections and conversations that can benefit mental and physical well-being.

(Family Features) Despite busy lives and full schedules, finding time for regular meals with loved ones encourages connections and conversations that can benefit mental and physical well-being. Gathering your family, friends, coworkers or neighbors at least once a week to spend time together over a meal provides opportunities to decompress and socialize.
If you’re looking for a little delicious inspiration, the American Heart Association recommends scheduling one night per week to create a recurring tradition and enjoy favorites such as breakfast for dinner. Recipes like Egg, Avocado and Black Bean Breakfast Burritos; Huevos Rancheros; and Southwestern Quinoa and Egg Breakfast Bowls from the Healthy for Good Eat Smart initiative, nationally supported by Eggland’s Best, are perfectly suited for sharing while making time to destress at the dinner table.
In fact, according to a study by “Canadian Family Physician,” regular meals at home with loved ones can reduce stress, boost self-esteem and make everyone feel connected with mealtime conversations that allow a chance to unplug and unwind.
Meals don’t have to be elaborate for a successful evening together. Despite the perceived effort involved with preparing a meal, research published in “Preventive Medicine” shows those who have frequent meals with others, particularly parents with their children, may improve social and emotional well-being.
In addition to the mental and emotional benefits of meals with loved ones, eating together can also encourage healthier choices when better-for-you recipes are on the menu. Dining as a group can provide inspiration to try heart-healthy recipes that include the wide variety of vegetables, fruit, whole grains and healthy protein sources recommended by the American Heart Association to help prevent heart disease and stroke.

Golden Bird in Compton: When Mom Took a Night Off
Golden Bird in Compton was an occasional Friday or Saturday treat when Mom wanted a break from cooking. A personal look back at its Alondra Boulevard location and the memories that linger.

Some childhood meals stay with you for decades. For me, Golden Bird fried chicken in Compton is one of them.
Growing up in the Los Angeles area, an occasional Friday or Saturday meant my mom wanted a break from cooking. Those were the nights when takeout became a treat, and Golden Bird was one of the places I remember enjoying most.
The location on East Alondra Boulevard sounds like the one we visited. Researching it brought me to 2600 East Alondra Boulevard, Compton—an address listed in Los Angeles County records under Golden Bird #1.
An address can help place a memory on a map. But what I remember most is much simpler: the chicken was delicious, and getting it was a welcome weekend treat.
Part of Our Family’s Takeout Rotation
Golden Bird wasn’t our only chicken stop. Over the years, there was Pioneer, KFC, Church’s, Louisiana Fried Chicken, and later Popeyes. I also remember Jim Dandy from when I was very young, especially its crinkle-cut fries.
Each name brings back a different memory. Golden Bird brings me back to Compton and those evenings when my mother could take some time off from preparing dinner.
As a kid, I thought about enjoying the food. Looking back, I also appreciate what those meals meant for her: one less dinner to cook and a chance to take a break.
The History Behind the Address
Golden Bird’s own history describes a family recipe associated with Zelma and a wet batter designed to give the chicken a crisp outside while keeping the meat moist. My own memory is simply that I loved eating it.
The Alondra Boulevard location also connects to another chapter in Southern California’s fried-chicken history. Vincent Williams opened a Compton Golden Bird franchise in 1983, according to the Los Angeles Times.
A later profile described Williams developing his Honey’s Kettle concept in his former Compton franchise location. Honey’s Kettle dates its beginnings on Alondra Boulevard to 2000, and a 2012 restaurant visit documented its original location at 2600 East Alondra Boulevard. Those accounts point to a connection between the two businesses at that address.
I haven’t established who operated the restaurant during every year my family visited. But learning about its history adds another layer to a place I remember through its food.
A Weekend Memory Worth Keeping
For me, Golden Bird’s place in the story starts with family. It was an occasional treat, a meal I enjoyed, and a Friday or Saturday when Mom could let someone else handle the cooking.
Decades later, that is still a good reason to remember a neighborhood restaurant.
Editor’s note: Golden Bird is still serving fried chicken in South Los Angeles at 8300 South Western Avenue, at West 83rd Street. For those of us who remember it as a weekend family treat, it’s good to know the Golden Bird name remains part of LA’s food scene. Order pickup and delivery
