The Travis Walton abduction case: a 1975 UFO encounter that inspired the film Fire in the Sky and remains one of the most debated alien abduction stories in history.
The Travis Walton Incident
On the night of November 5, 1975, a crew of seven loggers working in Arizona’s Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest witnessed something they could never forget. As their truck wound down a dirt road near Snowflake, Arizona, a brilliant light illuminated the trees. Hovering above the clearing was a massive, glowing disc-shaped UFO.
One of the men, Travis Walton, stepped out to take a closer look. Suddenly, a powerful beam of light struck him, knocking him to the ground. His coworkers fled in panic. When they returned minutes later, Walton was gone.
For five days, Walton was missing. Authorities suspected foul play, but every member of the crew passed polygraph tests confirming their story. Then, on November 10, Walton reappeared, disoriented but alive.

Walton claimed he had been taken aboard the UFO, where he encountered strange beings — both the classic “greys” and tall, human-like figures. His account became the basis of his book The Walton Experience and the 1993 Hollywood film Fire in the Sky.
Nearly 50 years later, the case remains one of the most famous UFO abduction stories in history. Supporters cite multiple witnesses and passed lie-detector tests, while skeptics argue it was an elaborate hoax. Either way, the Travis Walton incident continues to fuel debate and fascinate UFO researchers worldwide.
