Stay Protected: Understanding the need for vaccines throughout your life
Vaccines are not just for children attending elementary school and college students returning to campuses. Staying current with vaccinations is essential for lifelong health, promoting individual and community well-being, and offering flexible, accessible care.

(Family Features) As health needs evolve throughout life, it can be easy to forget how crucial vaccinations can be for protecting against preventable diseases. Many associate vaccines with childhood, remembering the series of shots received during early school years. However, vaccination importance extends far beyond adolescence.
The Need for Vaccines
Vaccines are not just for children attending elementary school and college students returning to campuses – they should be incorporated into a lifelong commitment to health and wellness. Whether required or recommended, vaccinations can play a pivotal role in safeguarding individual health and promoting community well-being. That’s why now is an excellent time to check in and make sure your family members are protected from infectious diseases at every stage of life.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), vaccines help create protective antibodies that fight infections. The experts at the CDC state childhood vaccinations, such as MMR (measles, mumps and rubeola), Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) and HPV, are known to prevent around 4 million global deaths annually. However, only 1 in 5 adults are up to date on their vaccines, highlighting a critical gap in public health awareness and readiness.
Vaccines contribute to the body’s defense system, helping arm it against a variety of diseases that can strike at any age. Vaccines work by training immune systems to recognize and combat harmful viruses or bacteria. The immune system’s efficiency can decrease while aging, making people more susceptible to diseases. That’s why staying current with recommended vaccines is essential throughout each person’s life.
Protecting Your Community
Community pharmacies and clinics, such as the Kroger Family of Companies’ Pharmacies and The Little Clinic LLC, are accessible options for people seeking the health care services they need outside of traditional settings. These facilities offer a range of high-quality services, including medication counseling, health screenings and immunizations.
This convenience is crucial for routine preventive care, including year-round vaccine administration, which should not be limited to a single season. Vulnerable populations, including those ages 60 and older, individuals with chronic diseases and some minority populations, are more at risk for contracting certain infections. These groups may need to maintain updated vaccinations and boosters throughout the year. For children younger than 5 years of age, check with your local pharmacist or clinician for vaccine guidelines.
Unlike some traditional health care settings, retail pharmacies and clinics are often located within local communities and have extended hours that cater to busy schedules, allowing people to get their families vaccinated with more flexibility. In fact, 90% of the U.S. population lives within 5 miles of a community pharmacy. Options like the Kroger Family of Companies’ Pharmacies, The Little Clinic and other retail pharmacies offer vaccine administration within their pharmacy and clinic locations, making vaccinations a seamless part of the health care experience they provide.
Trusting Medical Professionals
Pharmacists and clinicians with Kroger Health are available during convenient times to provide advice on vaccinations you and your family may need. Pharmacists and nurse practitioners can provide recommendations based on your age, health conditions and lifestyle. They can also address concerns or questions about vaccines to help you make the best decisions for you and your family.
Vaccines are a cornerstone of preventive health care, helping peoples’ bodies produce protective antibodies that can defend against infections and promote overall health. That’s why staying up to date with vaccinations is important at all ages. With a commitment to safeguarding families through comprehensive vaccination services, a local team of medical professionals can offer professional, credible and convenient health care solutions under one roof.

El Segundo’s holistic health destination makes world-class wellness more accessible with new tiered membership structure
When Whole Foods Market Co-Founder John Mackey set out to reimagine healthcare, he envisioned something radically different from the fragmented system most of us navigate. One year into that vision, Love.Life is proving that comprehensive wellness under one roof isn’t just possible—it’s thriving.
The El Segundo wellness destination just unveiled a refreshed membership model designed to meet people wherever they are on their health journey, from those seeking advanced medical care to fitness enthusiasts chasing peak performance.
Four Paths to Optimal Health
Love.Life’s new membership structure replaces complexity with clarity, offering four distinct options:
Optimize Platinum is the white-glove experience for those who want nothing left to chance. Members get unlimited training sessions, access to a physician-led team of over 20 experts, and cutting-edge diagnostics including Prenuvo Full Body MRI scans. It’s personalized health optimization at its most comprehensive.
Optimize Gold integrates medical care with fitness and recovery. This tier delivers personalized care from a multidisciplinary team, advanced diagnostics, one-on-one physician visits for both preventive and acute care, plus unlimited access to fitness and recovery amenities.
Optimize Silver focuses on the medical foundation. Members receive advanced testing, precision medical care, a personalized health plan, and monthly fitness and recovery access—ideal for those prioritizing clinical wellness.
Fitness + Recovery is the performance-focused option. Unlimited access to state-of-the-art fitness equipment, sauna, ice bath, and indoor pickleball courts makes this perfect for athletes and wellness enthusiasts who want to train and recover like pros.
Beyond Membership: New Programs and Deeper Personalization
Love.Life isn’t just restructuring—they’re expanding. New offerings include gut and oral microbiome testing through Viome, spiritual and emotional health programming, dedicated accountability coaches, and upgraded fitness technology.
The standout addition? Their Bone Density Training Program, now available to both members and the public. This science-backed protocol combines 10 minutes on the bioDensity machine with a 20-minute PowerPlate session to strengthen bones and joints efficiently. It’s the kind of targeted, evidence-based programming that sets Love.Life apart from traditional gyms and wellness centers.
A Wellness Destination Open to All
While memberships provide the deepest engagement, Love.Life keeps key amenities accessible to everyone. The Café + Wellness Bar serves nutrient-dense meals crafted by chefs and dietitians—no artificial ingredients, no seed oils, complete ingredient transparency, and detailed macronutrient information. It’s Whole Foods philosophy applied to prepared food.
The Love.Life Spa welcomes non-members for facials, massage, and Eastern medicine treatments including cupping, Reiki, and acupuncture. This open-door approach reflects the company’s broader mission: making world-class wellness approachable, not exclusive.
Bridging the Healthcare Gap
“One year in, our mission remains the same: to make world-class health and wellness approachable, personalized, and inspiring,” said Michael Robertson, Regional President of Love.Life. “These updated memberships reflect the diverse ways our community wants to engage—whether through advanced medical care, performance and recovery, or a fully integrated lifestyle approach.”
That integration is Love.Life’s differentiator. The 45,000-square-foot facility houses functional medical care, precision wellness therapies, cutting-edge fitness, and nourishing food under one roof. It’s the antidote to scheduling specialists across town, coordinating care between providers who don’t communicate, and piecing together wellness from disconnected sources.
By blending Eastern and Western modalities with emerging science and wellness breakthroughs, Love.Life creates something increasingly rare in American healthcare: continuity. Your physician talks to your trainer. Your nutritionist coordinates with your recovery specialist. Your health plan actually integrates all the pieces.
The Future of Wellness, Today
As Love.Life marks its first anniversary, the message is clear: comprehensive, personalized wellness shouldn’t require navigating a maze of appointments, providers, and philosophies. Whether you’re pursuing longevity through advanced diagnostics, recovering from injury, or simply want to feel your best, there’s now a path designed for you.
For South Bay residents and anyone willing to make the trip to El Segundo, Love.Life offers a glimpse of what healthcare could be when prevention, performance, and personalization take center stage.

Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy Offers New Hope for Veterans
Last Updated on November 12, 2025 by Daily News Staff

Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy Offers New Hope for Veterans
(Family Features) For generations, America’s veterans have borne not only the visible scars of battle but also the hidden wounds of war. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, traumatic brain injury and anxiety have long haunted those who served, often with devastating effects on their quality of life and their families. While traditional treatments have helped, many veterans continue to suffer in silence – left behind by a system struggling to meet their needs. However, science is now reopening doors once closed, and therapies previously dismissed are being reconsidered with fresh eyes. Among them are psychedelic-assisted treatments, which have revealed potential in clinical trials to address the most severe mental health conditions afflicting veterans. The FDA’s Role Currently, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved only one psychedelic-based medication: a ketamine nasal spray to treat depression. However, other compounds are gaining the attention of researchers, clinicians and veterans alike. Psilocybin – the active ingredient in “magic mushrooms” – and a drug similar to LSD have both earned FDA “breakthrough therapy” status for their potential to ease depression and anxiety, sometimes after only a single dose. In 2017, MDMA-assisted therapy was identified as a potential breakthrough treatment option for PTSD; ultimately, the FDA declined to grant full approval. This setback underscored not a failure of science, but the complexity of studying powerful compounds under existing regulatory frameworks. For veterans, it was a disappointment, yet it also spotlighted the urgent need for continued research and funding. Veterans and Research at the Forefront One compound has captured national attention: ibogaine, a psychedelic root traditionally used in ceremonies in central and west Africa. Early studies with special-operations veterans have found improvements in PTSD, depression, anxiety and overall functioning – especially for those living with the effects of traumatic brain injury. Recognizing this potential, DAV (Disabled American Veterans) is championing these new approaches. At its 2025 National Convention, the organization hosted a groundbreaking psychedelics roundtable that brought together researchers, veterans, advocates and even a former NFL player to discuss the potential of psychedelic-assisted therapies. The century-old organization supports research into these treatments, pointing out that traditional therapies can fail for as many as 60% of those who try them. It’s also advocating for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to make psychedelic treatments available once they receive FDA approval. “We are experiencing a watershed moment in medical research as psychedelic-assisted therapies have revealed true potential in clinical trials to treat severe mental health conditions,” said Barry Jesinoski, DAV’s National Adjutant. “This glimmer offers veterans contending with not only PTSD but depression, traumatic brain injury, anxiety and more hope in a world where the status quo is failing them.” A New Mission The promising results of these treatments spurred some states to commit funding toward research into psychedelic therapies or conduct legislative hearings to explore their role in advancing this science. The VA is now conducting studies on MDMA and psilocybin. While more research is needed to fully understand their risks, benefits and best applications, for DAV, psychedelic medication represents both hope and responsibility. By advocating for rigorous research and ensuring veterans’ perspectives are central to the conversation, the organization is working to accelerate progress while safeguarding integrity. Whether through psilocybin, MDMA, ibogaine or future discoveries, the mission is clear: fund the research, pursue the science and ensure America’s veterans are given every chance to heal.
