Veggies for Veterans Phoenix

Phoenix, AZ – September 10, 2025 – Veterans and their families were once again the focus of community care as the Veggies for Veterans Phoenix program hosted its latest produce distribution at the Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center.

From 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., the VA’s ACC Hallway and Drive-Thru were filled with energy and gratitude as 50 volunteers worked side by side to pack and distribute 600 bags of fresh fruits and vegetables. Each bag was designed not just to feed, but to nourish — with produce that helps combat chronic illnesses such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol.

Community in Action

The event was made possible through the leadership of Gregory’s Fresh Market/Diana Gregory Outreach Services, in partnership with SRP, State Farm, Delta Dental of Arizona, and Peddler’s Son. Together, they ensured that local veterans had access to healthier food options while also fostering social connection and community support.

“SRP is proud to honor and support our local veteran community,” said Jackie Terry, SRP Senior Corporate Giving Strategist. “By helping bring healthy food directly to veterans, we are not only addressing hunger but also strengthening lives and communities.”

A Growing Legacy

Launched more than eight years ago at Victory Place, a transitional housing facility for veterans in Phoenix, Veggies for Veterans Phoenix has now served more than 20,000 veterans across the Valley. Held five times each year, the program continues to grow as volunteers, sponsors, and organizations come together for a common cause: ensuring that no veteran — or their family — goes to bed hungry.

3 Ways You Can Help Tackle Hunger and Strengthen Communities This Holiday Season

(Family Features) The holiday season is often a time of joy, connection and celebration. For millions of families across the country, however, it is also a season of uncertainty, wondering how to put food on the table or meet other essential needs. According to the USDA, more than 47.4 million people in the United States experience food insecurity each year. That’s why, each holiday season, thousands of Charles Schwab employees come together to fight hunger and strengthen the communities where they live and work. Through employee meal-packing events and nonprofit grants, volunteers and partners help families access nutritious meals and vital support during the holidays and beyond. “As we gather with loved ones this season, it’s important to remember that not all of our neighbors have that security,” said Kristine Dixon, managing director of Charles Schwab Community Affairs. “By working side-by-side with local hunger relief organizations, we’re helping ensure more families can share in the joy of a holiday meal and the peace of knowing they are supported.” As you prepare for the holidays, here are a few ways you can help address hunger relief and support your neighbors. Donate to a Local Food Bank Food banks and pantries are at the heart of efforts to make nutritious food accessible for all. Inflation and rising costs of living have stretched budgets thin, making it harder for families to afford groceries. Nonperishable donations such as canned goods, pasta and rice are always in high demand. Monetary donations often go even further, giving food banks the ability to purchase exactly what is needed most. Volunteer Your Time The gift of time is just as valuable as food donations. Food banks and hunger relief nonprofits rely on volunteers to sort, pack and distribute meals. Even a few hours can make a meaningful difference, adding up to thousands of volunteer hours to help nonprofits meet urgent needs during the holiday season and year-round. Support Community Partnerships No single organization can solve hunger alone. Collective action from neighbors, companies, nonprofits and others is what creates lasting impact. This year, Schwab employees will join forces with partners like Harvest Pack to pack more than 1 million nutritious meals for families across the country. Supporting these types of efforts, whether through donations, volunteering or spreading awareness, can expand the impact. Hunger is about more than food; it’s about stability and opportunity. By giving, volunteering and partnering with organizations that serve families in need, you can make the holiday season brighter for millions of Americans. High Demand Marks “Veggies for Veterans” Event Amid SNAP Delays

Diana Gregory Outreach Services’ latest Veggies for Veterans event at the Phoenix VA saw record demand, with 700 veterans receiving fresh produce—an increase linked to SNAP benefit delays following the recent government shutdown.

Phoenix, AZ — November 5, 2025 Diana Gregory Outreach Services hosted another successful “Veggies for Veterans” event last week at the Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center, honoring and supporting those who’ve served our nation. This year’s turnout revealed a notable surge in demand for donated fresh produce. More than 40 volunteers helped pack and distribute 700 bags filled with 14 varieties of fruits and vegetables—a last-minute increase from the original 600 due to the growing need.

Organizers observed that this heightened demand may be tied to the ongoing effects of the recent government shutdown, which caused delays in SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits for many households, including veterans and seniors who rely on food assistance. Peddler’s Son contributed bags of red and green grapes for every recipient, with strong support from community sponsors including State Farm, Southwest Airlines, Sanderson Ford, Harrah’s, Phoenix VA Health Care System, Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council, and the Archer-Ragsdale Tuskegee Airmen Chapter. Founder Diana Gregory thanked all who made the event possible, reaffirming her commitment to bringing nutrition and dignity to underserved veterans through Gregory’s Fresh Market. “To all veterans—thank you for your service,” said Gregory.

$40 Thanksgiving Feast
ALDI Offers a Full Thanksgiving Meal for $40, Setting the Bar for Other Grocers

When it comes to holiday hosting, the guest list often grows faster than the budget allows. But this Thanksgiving, ALDI is making sure no one gets left off the invitation—proving you can feed a crowd without emptying your wallet.

The country’s fastest-growing grocer just announced it’s offering a complete Thanksgiving meal for 10 people at just $40. That’s right—$4 per person, less than what you’d pay for a pumpkin spice latte. And unlike last year’s already-impressive deal, ALDI has managed to lower prices even further, setting a new benchmark for affordable holiday meals.

What’s on the Table?

For your $40, you’re not getting a bare-bones dinner. ALDI’s Thanksgiving spread includes 21 total products covering all the classics your family expects:

  • A 14-pound Jennie-O turkey
  • Rolls
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Mac and cheese
  • Stuffing
  • Mashed potatoes with gravy
  • Sweet potato casserole
  • Green bean casserole
  • Carrots
  • Pumpkin pie

Every tradition, every side dish, every comfort food your guests look forward to—all included. Items are purchased individually and clearly marked on the shelf, with no coupons or membership fees required.

Why This Matters Now

Timing couldn’t be better. According to the August Consumer Price Index, staples like fruits, vegetables, and meats are more expensive than last year, pushing overall grocery costs higher. For families already stretching their budgets, the holidays can feel like a financial tightrope walk.

“The ALDI commitment to low prices is unwavering and I am thrilled that we are able to offer an even more affordable holiday meal than last year,” said Atty McGrath, CEO of ALDI U.S. “Saving our shoppers money is our mission every day—but is especially important during the holidays when they need it most.”

And the savings add up beyond Thanksgiving. According to ALDI’s 2025 Price Leadership Report, a family of four can save up to $4,000 annually by shopping at ALDI—from everyday meals to special occasions.

Leading the Industry on Price

For years, ALDI has consistently offered the lowest per-person price on Thanksgiving meals compared to nationwide retailers. This year’s announcement reinforces that leadership position.

“Thanksgiving is the biggest food holiday of the year, and ALDI is proud to lead the industry once again on price,” said Scott Patton, CCO of ALDI U.S. “Price leadership is part of our DNA, and the holidays are when our commitment to value really shines. We believe families shouldn’t have to make trade-offs to feed everyone, especially at Thanksgiving.”

How to Get Your $40 Feast

Shopping for your Thanksgiving meal at ALDI is flexible and convenient. Starting October 15 through December 24, you can:

  • Shop in-store at your local ALDI
  • Order online for curbside pickup
  • Use grocery delivery partners including Instacart, Uber Eats, and DoorDash

Note that online prices may vary slightly from in-store pricing in your area, but the value proposition remains strong across all shopping methods.

The Bottom Line

Thanksgiving is about gathering with the people who matter most—not about stressing over whether you can afford to invite everyone. ALDI’s $40 Thanksgiving meal removes that barrier, making it possible to keep every tradition and every guest on your list.

In a year when grocery prices continue to climb, ALDI is doubling down on its commitment to value. The message is clear: you don’t have to choose between a full table and a balanced budget.

This Thanksgiving, hosts can focus on what really matters—the laughter, the stories, the moments that become memories. Because when dinner costs less than a round of coffee drinks, there’s one less thing to worry about and one more reason to be grateful.
