HOUSTON /PRNewswire/ — 10x-NBA All-Star, basketball legend, entrepreneur, and philanthropist James Harden has received a nomination for the 2022-23 Bob Lanier Community Assist Award—as presented by NBA Cares. This marks his first nomination for the prestigious annual honor, and it follows in the wake of a series of successful community initiatives spearheaded by his Impact13 Foundation over the past 12 months. Impact13‘s work includes the recently launched educational campaign, The Financial Literacy Tour, in partnership with financial expert Jordan Awoye of Awoye Capital. By visiting schools nationwide, it unlocks financial literacy and economic understanding for the next generation with an enriching and empowering curriculum as well as offering scholarship opportunities for select students. It kicked off last month at the Roc Nation School of Music, Sports and Business. The tour will be making its way to Medgar Evers College in the Fall with more tour dates to be announced.

He brought some light to paralyzed Michigan State University shooting survivor John Hao by inviting him to a recent playoff game and presenting him a pair of sneakers he played in—as chronicled by NPR. Following the game four win, Harden extended an invite for him to return for game six.

Harden made a pledge to refurbish the gym of his own high school. In November, he revitalized this space, repainting the entire gym and supplying both weight rooms with state-of-the-art high-performance exercise equipment.

Plus, Impact13 renovated and breathed new life into the Cuney Home’s Basketball Court in Houston, TX. In the process, it transformed the surrounding neighborhood with a safe place for kids and families to congregate. The organization also extended its efforts to Haiti. The team notably architected and introduced a brand-new playground in Port-au-Prince with The Barbancourt Foundation.

The Bob Lanier Community Assist Award recognizes an NBA player’s commitment to improving and uplifting his respective community. As decided by fans and an NBA executive panel, the winner will be revealed during the post-season and the NBA will donate $25,000 on his behalf to an organization of his choosing.

Breaking News + Health & Fitness Alert: Second Nature Keto Crunch Smart Mix Recall

Published

on

Last Updated on May 6, 2026 by Daily News Staff

Second Nature Brands has issued a voluntary recall for certain 10-ounce pouches of SECOND NATURE KETO CRUNCH SMART MIX™ after discovering the product may contain undeclared cashews, pistachios, and cherries. For anyone with allergies or severe sensitivities—especially to tree nuts like cashews and pistachios—this is a serious safety issue.

The company says the affected product was distributed nationwide, both in retail stores and through online orders.

Why this matters

Undeclared allergens are one of the most urgent types of food safety alerts because consumers rely on labels to avoid ingredients that can trigger reactions. Second Nature Brands warns that people with allergies or severe sensitivity to cashews, pistachios, other tree nuts, or cherries could face serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume the recalled product.

As of the announcement, no illnesses have been reported.

How to identify the recalled product

Check your pantry (and any recent online snack orders) for the following details:

  • Product: SECOND NATURE KETO CRUNCH SMART MIX™
  • Size: 10-ounce pouch
  • UPC: 077034013405
  • Best if used by date: 2/12/2027 (printed on the backside of the pouch)

Only pouches with the “Best if used by 2/12/2027” date are included. Other Best if used by dates are not affected, according to the company.

What happened

Second Nature Brands says the recall began after it was discovered that product containing cashews, pistachios, and cherries was placed into packaging that did not disclose those allergens. The company reports that a follow-up investigation indicates the issue was caused by a temporary breakdown in production and packaging processes.

The recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

What consumers should do right now

If you have the affected product:

  1. Do not consume it.
  2. Keep the pouch (and take a photo of the UPC and Best if used by date if helpful).
  3. Contact Second Nature Brands for a full refund.

Contact information for refunds and questions

Second Nature Brands says consumers can reach them by phone or email:

Health & fitness note: “Keto” doesn’t equal “risk-free”

Keto-friendly snacks can be convenient for people managing carbs, training schedules, or busy workdays—but this alert is a reminder that label accuracy is non-negotiable, especially for anyone balancing nutrition goals with medical dietary restrictions.

If you or someone in your household has a tree nut or cherry allergy, consider doing a quick sweep of:

  • Snack drawers at home and work
  • Gym bags and travel kits
  • Recent bulk orders or subscription deliveries

Bottom line

If you have a 10-ounce pouch of SECOND NATURE KETO CRUNCH SMART MIX™ with UPC 077034013405 and Best if used by 2/12/2027do not eat it. Contact Second Nature Brands for a refund and share the alert with anyone who may have purchased the product—especially those with tree nut or cherry allergies.

The Orion spacecraft splashed down in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California at 5:07 p.m. PDT, carrying NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen back home after a nearly 10-day journey through deep space.

🚀 A Mission for the Record Books

During the mission, the crew traveled a total of 694,481 miles, reaching a maximum distance of 252,756 miles from Earth—farther than any humans have ever gone, surpassing the Apollo 13 record set in 1970.

Launched on April 1 aboard NASA’s powerful Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, Artemis II tested critical systems needed for future missions, including life support, navigation, and deep space communication.

🌕 Science, Exploration, and Stunning Views

While orbiting the Moon, the astronauts captured more than 7,000 images, including views of the lunar far side, a rare solar eclipse, and detailed observations of craters, lava flows, and surface features.

The mission also included scientific experiments to better understand how the human body responds to deep space conditions, helping prepare for longer missions to the Moon and Mars.

🛰️ Safe Return and Recovery

Following splashdown, recovery teams quickly reached the spacecraft and transported the crew by helicopter to the USS John P. Murtha for initial medical evaluations. The astronauts are expected to return to NASA’s Johnson Space Center for further assessments.

🌍 What Comes Next

With Artemis II complete, NASA is now turning its focus to Artemis III, the next mission aimed at landing astronauts on the Moon and establishing a long-term human presence.

The success of Artemis II marks a major step forward in humanity’s return to deep space—and the beginning of a new era of exploration.

Artemis II Successfully Launches

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — NASA has successfully launched its Artemis II mission, marking the first crewed journey toward the Moon in more than 50 years.

The powerful Space Launch System (SLS) rocket lifted off from Kennedy Space Center on April 1, carrying four astronauts on a 10-day mission around the Moon and back.

On board are Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, Mission Specialist Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen. The mission is already being hailed as a major milestone in NASA’s effort to return humans to deep space.

Shortly after liftoff, the Orion spacecraft successfully reached orbit and deployed its solar arrays, beginning its journey that will eventually send the crew on a translunar trajectory toward the Moon.

Artemis II is a lunar flyby mission, meaning astronauts will not land but will travel farther from Earth than any human mission in decades while testing critical systems needed for future landings.

The mission also marks several historic firsts, including the first woman and the first person of color—Victor Glover—to travel into lunar space.

NASA says the mission is a key step toward future lunar landings and long-term plans to establish a human presence on the Moon later this decade.

🛰️ Artemis II Mission Timeline

The 10-day Artemis II mission follows a carefully planned trajectory from Earth to the Moon and back:

  • Day 1: Launch and Earth orbit
  • Day 1–2: Translunar injection burn
  • Days 2–4: Deep space travel
  • Days 4–5: Lunar flyby
  • Days 5–8: Return to Earth
  • Days 9–10: Reentry and splashdown
