Assistory Outreach Services, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, recently held their first annual Assistory Awards Breakfast & Fundraiser at the DoubleTree Hotel in Tempe, AZ. This event aimed to recognize and honor four exceptional individuals who have made a significant impact in their community through activism, philanthropy, and advocacy. The breakfast was the brainchild of Jon Taylor, the president and CEO of Assistory Outreach, who also organized and hosted the event.
Assistory Outreach Services is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the unsheltered, low-income population, and seniors in Maricopa County. Their mission is centered around providing high-quality services that promote dignity, empowerment, independence, safety, self-esteem, and self-sufficiency. Since 2021, they have been actively involved in coordinated community efforts to combat homelessness, food insecurity, and digital illiteracy.
The Assistory Awards Breakfast provided a platform to acknowledge individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to their community. The honorees included Michael Malone, who received the Vendor Award for his contributions through Malone Sport and Print; Laura C. Bulluck, a leadership coach and empowering conversationalist, who received the Peer Award; Kurt Rinske, Chief of Brands at Jerry’s Restaurant and Los Sombreros, founder of Level Up Projects, and president of Clothes Bin Recycling (AZ Franchise), who was honored with the Community Champion Award; and John Akram, a member of The 100 Black Men of Phoenix, who received the Humanitarian Award.
The event was made even more meaningful by the presence of Travis Hardin, a Tennessee native and community advocate who served as the master of ceremonies. Travis’s remarkable achievements include being honored as a top 100 candidate for the John C. Maxwell Global Leadership Award, receiving the Wells Fargo Diversity Champion Award, and being nominated by United Way Worldwide for a reality series showcasing ordinary people making extraordinary differences in their communities.
Through the Assistory Awards Breakfast, Assistory Outreach Services highlighted the incredible work being done by individuals who selflessly contribute to the betterment of society. This event served as a reminder of the importance of supporting and recognizing those who make a positive impact in their communities.

LOS ANGELES — April 22, 2026 — In a continued push toward sustainable transportation, Metrolink will once again offer systemwide free rides on Earth Day, inviting commuters and travelers to leave their cars behind and explore a cleaner way to move across the region.
A One-Day Opportunity to Ride Free
On Wednesday, April 22, passengers can board any Metrolink train — including the Arrow service — without purchasing a ticket. The initiative is part of the broader celebration of Earth Day, encouraging environmentally conscious travel choices.
The fare-free program is designed to appeal to both regular riders and first-time users, particularly those navigating Southern California’s persistent traffic congestion and rising fuel costs.
Encouraging Sustainable Travel Habits
“Earth Day is a reminder that small changes, like choosing public transit over driving one day a week, can have a meaningful impact on our environment,” said Doug Chaffee, chair of the Metrolink Board.
With gas prices continuing to strain household budgets, the agency hopes the initiative will inspire more residents to consider rail as part of their regular commute.
Regional Connections Expand Access
Metrolink’s Earth Day promotion aligns with similar efforts by other Southern California transit providers. Riders can seamlessly connect to services operated by: LA Metro and the Orange County Transportation Authority, Riverside County Transportation Commission, San Bernardino County Transportation Authority and Ventura County Transportation Commission.
These partnerships extend the reach of fare-free travel across a six-county region, making it easier for riders to explore destinations without relying on personal vehicles.
Service Adjustments and Rider Tips
Passengers should note that trains will operate on a reduced weekday schedule, implemented earlier this spring. Despite the adjustment, all Metrolink lines and station cities remain in service.
For those planning a trip:
- No ticket is required — simply board the train
- Bikes are welcome, with capacity ranging from three bikes per standard car to nine in designated bike cars
- A curated destination guide highlights attractions within walking or biking distance of stations
Environmental and Economic Impact
Metrolink is also promoting its Personal Impact Calculator, a digital tool that allows riders to estimate how switching from driving to rail can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lower fuel expenses.

Fare-free transit days have gained traction nationwide as agencies look to boost ridership and promote sustainability. PHOENIX, AZ — Senior Assist Day reached a meaningful milestone this year, marking four years of service to seniors living at Tanner Gardens in South Phoenix. Hosted by Assistory Outreach Services, the annual event continues to provide dignity, connection, and practical support to an often-overlooked population.
A Personal Beginning
The origins of Senior Assist Day are deeply personal for Assistory Outreach Services founder and CEO Jon Taylor.
“The origin of me going to Tanner Gardens was when I was with the 100 Black Men of Phoenix. We used to do a luncheon for seniors around December.”
That early connection took on new meaning as Taylor’s mother began showing signs of dementia, inspiring him to create an event rooted in empathy and care.
“I got a great feeling from being around those senior citizens. Senior Assist Day is roughly based on my mother.”
An Event That Continues to Grow
What began as a small gathering has grown into a full community experience. Seniors now enjoy catered meals, live music, personal care services, and gifts tailored to their needs.
This year’s event included authentic Mexican food, live holiday music, haircuts provided by AJ’s Barbershop, and the donation of new shoes — a moment that stood out for many attendees.
“Seeing the excitement and how they were reacting to the new shoes was incredible,” Taylor said.
Beyond a Single Day
Senior Assist Day also helps build trust between Assistory Outreach Services and the residents of Tanner Gardens, opening the door to additional programs throughout the year.
Through initiatives like the Digital Access Program for Seniors (DAPs), the organization helps seniors develop basic phone and computer skills, empowering them to stay connected and informed.
Challenges and Purpose
Keeping the event going year after year requires dedication and resources. Taylor personally raises funds and helps purchase gifts for more than 130 residents annually.
Despite the challenges, his motivation remains strong.
“I do feel as though this is my ministry. I’m providing services, and I’m being fulfilled at the same time.”
Looking Ahead
Looking to the future, Taylor envisions Senior Assist Day becoming an all-day celebration, offering expanded services, entertainment, and meals — all focused exclusively on the residents of Tanner Gardens.
As the event enters its fifth year, Senior Assist Day stands as a testament to what consistent community engagement and compassion can achieve.
