Philadelphia Insurance Companies Gives 400 Kids a Step Towards a Brighter Future

A shoe giveaway was hosted with Shoes That Fit and the LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park. This was the first of two giveaways made possible through a $100,000 donation by Philadelphia Insurance Companies to Shoes That Fit.

LOS ANGELES /PRNewswire/ — Kids can’t enjoy typical childhood experiences without proper shoes. With footwear prices increasing, it can be challenging for low-income families to keep up with how quickly their kids outgrow shoes and need a new pair.

Philadelphia Insurance Companies employees distribute shoes to children in need at the LA Galaxy’s stadium.

Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY), one of the largest writers of nonprofit insurance in the country, made a $100,000 donation to Shoes That Fit, a nonprofit that provides new athletic shoes to underserved children. The two organizations partnered with Dignity Health Sports Park’s ASCSC Community Foundation and the LA Galaxy Foundation to deliver new Adidas shoes to 400 children in need during a Halloween event at Galaxy Park on Friday, October 20. LA Galaxy players and Cozmo, the Galaxy’s mascot, were on hand to help PHLY employees distribute shoes to the local youth from the Carson, Compton, and greater Los Angeles area.

“One in three children in the United States live in a low-income family, and shoes are one of the most expensive items for families to provide,” said Amy Fass, Executive Director at Shoes That Fit. “When families have to choose between putting food on the table or buying new shoes for school, you can imagine that food wins every time. The simple gift of a pair of shoes can increase a child’s confidence, attendance, and performance at school, and we are so thankful that Philadelphia Insurance and the LA Galaxy are taking the time to make such a positive impact on these kids.”

“The teamwork by Shoes That Fit, LA Galaxy, Dignity Health Sports Park and Philadelphia Insurance Companies is a win for kids in the LA community,” said John Glomb, president and CEO of Philadelphia Insurance Companies. “PHLY is so excited to start our new partnership with Shoes That Fit through this first LA-area giveaway and support our customers and communities nationwide through future shoe giveaways.”

This was the first of two Shoes That Fit giveaways funded by Philadelphia Insurance Companies. The second will take place in 2024 in another community.

In a world that often seems divided, there is a day that unites people from all walks of life, igniting the spirit of generosity and compassion. National Day of Giving, also known as , is a global movement that celebrates the act of giving back to others. Originating in the United States, this philanthropic phenomenon has now spread across the globe, inspiring millions to make a positive impact on their communities. In this blog post, we will delve into the origins of National Day of Giving, explore its purpose, and discuss some of the best ways to observe this remarkable day.

Giving Tuesday

Origins of National Day of Giving:
National Day of Giving was first observed in 2012 as a response to the consumerism and commercialism that often overshadowed the true meaning of the holiday season. The 92nd Street Y, a community and cultural center in New York City, along with the United Nations Foundation, launched this initiative to encourage people to give back and support charitable causes. Since then, it has grown exponentially, gaining support from organizations, businesses, and individuals worldwide.

What is National Day of Giving About?
National Day of Giving serves as a reminder to be grateful for what we have and to extend a helping hand to those in need. It is a day when people come together to donate their time, money, skills, or resources to causes and organizations that align with their values. This movement emphasizes the importance of collective action, highlighting that even small acts of kindness can create a significant impact.

Ways to Observe National Day of Giving:

  1. Make a Donation: Consider donating to a cause or charity that resonates with you. Whether it’s supporting education, healthcare, environmental conservation, or social justice, your contribution can make a difference. Research reputable organizations and ensure that your donation reaches those in need.
  2. Volunteer: Offer your time and skills to a local nonprofit or community service organization. Whether it’s serving meals at a shelter, tutoring students, or participating in environmental cleanup initiatives, volunteering allows you to directly engage with your community and make a tangible impact.
  3. Spread Awareness: Social media can be a powerful tool for spreading the message of generosity. Use the hashtag to share stories, causes, and initiatives that inspire you. Encourage your friends and followers to join the movement and make a difference in their own ways.
  4. Support Local Businesses: National Day of Giving isn’t just about monetary donations; it’s also an opportunity to support local businesses and entrepreneurs. Consider buying from local shops, artisans, or restaurants, as this helps stimulate the local economy and promotes community growth.
  5. Start a Fundraiser: Organize a fundraising event or campaign to raise funds for a cause close to your heart. Engage your friends, family, and colleagues to contribute and amplify the impact. From bake sales to charity runs, there are countless creative ways to rally support and make a positive change.

National Day of Giving, or , is a remarkable movement that reminds us of the power of generosity and collective action. With its origins rooted in the desire to counterbalance consumerism, this day encourages individuals, businesses, and organizations to come together and support causes that uplift humanity. By making donations, volunteering, spreading awareness, supporting local businesses, and initiating fundraisers, each of us can contribute to creating a more compassionate and equitable world. Let us embrace the spirit of National Day of Giving and make a lasting impact on the lives of others.

When you step into a ballpark, the sights and sounds of the game surround you. The aroma of hot dogs and the refreshing taste of a cold beer are often part of the experience. Perhaps you’ll even have the chance to catch a fly ball. But beyond the thrill of the game, there’s something special about the Arizona Diamondbacks. As a team deeply invested in their community, the Diamondbacks have made a significant impact through their philanthropic efforts. Let’s explore how this Major League Baseball team has gone above and beyond to support their community through charitable initiatives.

The Arizona Diamondback Foundation:
Working at Chase Ballpark has given me the opportunity to witness firsthand the incredible work of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the community. Since its establishment in 1997, the Arizona Diamondback Foundation has been a driving force behind numerous charitable endeavors. This nonprofit organization has consistently contributed $50 million annually to various charities, focusing on areas such as homelessness, indigent healthcare, and children’s programs.

Supporting Education and Youth Programs:
One of the standout initiatives of the Diamondbacks is their dedication to education and youth development. They have refurbished 41 baseball fields across the state, providing safe and enjoyable spaces for young athletes. Additionally, the Diamondbacks have partnered with organizations like the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center and the Boys and Girls Club of Maricopa County, recognizing their outstanding work in these areas.

Recognizing Academic Excellence:
The Arizona Diamondbacks also recognize the importance of education and academic excellence. Through their commitment to supporting schools, they established an excellent award program. By the end of 2012, they had awarded $250,000 to 51 schools across the state, highlighting and celebrating the achievements of students and educators alike.

The 50/50 Raffle:
During every Diamondbacks game, fans have the opportunity to participate in a 50/50 raffle. Half of the proceeds from this raffle go to a designated charity, while the other half goes to the lucky ticket holder. This unique initiative not only raises funds for worthy causes but also engages fans in the spirit of giving back.

A Community-Driven Team:
When you enter Chase Ballpark in Arizona to witness a Diamondbacks game, it’s clear that they are more than just a baseball team. They are a team committed to making a positive impact on the community they call home. By supporting various charitable initiatives, the Diamondbacks have demonstrated their dedication to improving the lives of those in need.
