HULU ORIGINAL ‘HISTORY OF THE WORLD, PART II’ BECOMES AN INTERACTIVE DIGITAL GAMING EXPERIENCE

History of the World, Part II premiered as a new eight-episode series on Hulu

Published

SANTA MONICA, Calif. /PRNewswire/ — Mel Brooks’ History of the World, Part I has influenced comedic cinema for 40-plus years and the cult 80s movie is finally getting an interactive gaming experience with its sequel, which debuted on March 6.

History of the World, Part II premiered as a new eight-episode series on Hulu, and as an interactive digital gaming experience available to play online and on Xbox. In the digital gaming experience, fans encounter the show’s colorful characters voiced by the star-studded cast with Ike Barinholtz, Nick Kroll, Wanda Sykes, and of course, the formidable Mel Brooks. The show’s mastermind is no stranger to video games, as Brooks has been involved with several previous gaming projects.

The interactive website version of the History of the World, Part II gaming experience embraces the crass humor and absurd silliness of the show (and makes no apologies) for an unforgettable, unique experience with plenty of memorable features like the fact that the world didn’t begin with a ‘big bang’ – it was actually ‘The Big Burp.’ Players will feel like they’re part of the show as they experience various historical recreations, from Amelia Earhart to Noah’s Dog Park, and more.

The History of the World, Part II digital gaming experience is available to download FREE on Xbox until March 31, 2023, and for desktop and mobile play until July 6, 2023. Players who complete the interactive gaming experience are eligible to win prizes, including a brand-new Xbox, and more historically hilarious surprises.

The world of sports comedies is about to get a spirited, new addition with “The Dink,” an upcoming film brought to life by the dynamic collaboration of Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Films and Rivulet Entertainment. Set to delight audiences with its unique take on the rising phenomenon of pickleball, this movie promises a blend of humor, charm, and unexpected athletic feats. With cameras rolling this November in Los Angeles, “The Dink” is positioning itself as a must-watch production.

Star-studded Cast and Creative Powerhouses

Headlining the movie is an impressive ensemble cast featuring Jake Johnson as the central character—a once-promising tennis pro who’s down on his luck. Joining him are the talented Mary Steenburgen and the venerable Ed Harris, whose roles are eagerly anticipated by fans. Adding to the film’s allure, Ben Stiller and former tennis champion Andy Roddick will make key supporting appearances, showcasing an intriguing fusion of comedy and sports expertise.

In the director’s chair, we find Josh Greenbaum, known for his work on MGM’s upcoming “Spaceballs” sequel and “Will & Harper.” Greenbaum will breathe life into an original screenplay penned by Sean Clements, who has previously written for popular shows such as “Workaholics” and “Kevin Can F**k Himself.” This creative amalgamation promises a script teeming with witty dialogue and engaging narrative arcs.

Plot Teaser

The storyline trails the journey of Jake Johnson’s character, a washed-up tennis professional, as he endeavors to salvage a club on the brink of collapse. As he seeks to reclaim his dignity and win his father’s respect, he must confront a lifelong aversion by engaging in a sport he vowed never to play—pickleball. This narrative promises both laughter and heart as it explores themes of redemption, familial bonds, and the eccentric world of pickleball.

Production and Industry Acclaim

Ben Stiller and John Lesher are at the helm, producing through the Red Hour Films banner, while Rivulet’s Rob Paris and Mike Witherill join as producers. Jake Johnson steps up as a producer, too, adding another layer to his involvement in the project. This venture follows the successful collaboration between Stiller and Rivulet on “Nutcrackers,” which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival as the opening night feature and later sold to Hulu in a competitive acquisition.

Who was Redd Foxx?

Redd Foxx was a trailblazing comedian whose irreverent humor and sharp wit entertained audiences for decades. Born John Elroy Sanford on December 9, 1922, in St. Louis, Missouri, Foxx began his career in comedy in the 1940s.

Foxx honed his craft on the Chitlin’ Circuit, a network of African-American vaudeville theaters that crisscrossed the country. He quickly gained a reputation for his raunchy, unapologetic humor, often tackling taboo subjects such as sex and race relations.

In the 1950s and 1960s, Foxx recorded several successful comedy albums, including “Laff of the Party” and “The Best of Redd Foxx.” These albums cemented his status as one of the most popular comedians of his era. His stand-up comedy was groundbreaking, as he embraced a level of frankness and honesty that was rarely seen in mainstream media at the time.

In 1972, Foxx landed the role of Fred Sanford in the hit TV series “Sanford and Son.” The show, which followed the antics of a junk dealer and his son, was a huge success and ran for six seasons. Foxx’s portrayal of Sanford earned him a Golden Globe Award and made him a household name, with his catchphrases and comedic timing becoming iconic.

Despite his success on TV, Foxx never lost his love for stand-up comedy. He continued to perform live shows throughout his career, earning a reputation as a master of the craft. His ability to connect with the audience and deliver punchlines with impeccable timing kept him a favorite among comedy enthusiasts.

Sadly, Foxx passed away on October 11, 1991, at the age of 68. However, his legacy lives on as a pioneering figure in the world of comedy. His irreverent humor and groundbreaking approach to taboo subjects paved the way for countless comedians who followed in his footsteps, leaving an indelible mark on comedy history.

Laughing while remembering Closet Cases of the Nerd Kind

Published

on

Closet Cases of the Nerd Kind is a hilarious short film that serves as a direct spoof of the Steven Spielberg film, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The film was released in 1980 and is a perfect example of the humor and satire that was popular during that time.

The film was written and produced by Rick Harper and Bob Rogers.

What sets Closet Cases of the Nerd Kind apart from other spoofs is the way it pokes fun at the stereotypes of nerds and geeks. The two scientists are portrayed as socially awkward and obsessed with science, which is a trope that was popularized during the 1970s and 1980s.

In the film, sewage worker Roy Dreary and a number of unusual characters meet up with strange extraterrestrials traveling to earth in a giant pie in the sky. Dreary develops an obsession with mashed potatoes, whipped cream, and maraschino cherries. He encounters singing mailboxes, truck radios that spout bubbles and bubble music, and one pie in the face after another, before finally finding himself at the Sara Loo pie factory-and his close encounter of the nerd kind.

Other characters include a wide-eyed cherubic child, a famous French scientist, a bewildered wife, plus Darth Vader on a motorcycle complaining that he is blocking the road. The film also includes a mysterious code (which turns out to be the first nine digits of the mathematical constant pi) and an oversized xylophone on which Dreary signals to the aliens. All of the character voices are over-dubbed by voice artists Corey Burton and Sandy Stotzer.

The special effects in the film are intentionally cheesy, which adds to the overall humor of the film. The aliens are portrayed as goofy and cartoonish, which is a stark contrast to the serious and ominous tone of Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Overall, Closet Cases of the Nerd Kind is a must-watch for fans of comedy and science fiction. The film’s humor and satire hold up even today, and it remains a cult classic among fans of spoof movies. If you’re in the mood for a good laugh, this film is definitely worth checking out.
