The Arizona Diamondbacks: Champions on the Field and in the Community

When you step into a ballpark, the sights and sounds of baseball surround you—the crack of the bat, the roar of the crowd, the aroma of hot dogs, and the refreshing taste of a cold beer. Maybe you’ll even catch a fly ball. But beyond the excitement of the game, the Arizona Diamondbacks stand out for another reason: their deep commitment to the community.

Through the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation and numerous initiatives, the team has built a legacy of philanthropy that extends far beyond Chase Field.


The Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation

Since its launch in 1997, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation has been the driving force behind the team’s charitable work. Over the years, the nonprofit has contributed more than $50 million to organizations across Arizona, focusing on critical needs such as homelessness, healthcare for underserved populations, and children’s programs.

Having worked at Chase Field, I’ve seen firsthand the impact of these efforts. The Foundation’s support has touched countless lives, making the team an integral part of Arizona’s philanthropic landscape.

Supporting Education and Youth Programs

One of the standout elements of the Diamondbacks’ community work is their investment in youth and education. The team has refurbished 41 baseball fields throughout the state, creating safe, accessible spaces for kids to play and grow.

The Diamondbacks also partner with organizations like the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Maricopa County, helping expand programs that nurture young people and families.


Recognizing Academic Excellence

The team doesn’t just support athletics—they also celebrate education. By 2012, the Diamondbacks had awarded $250,000 in grants to 51 schools across Arizona through their Excellence Awards Program, recognizing outstanding students, teachers, and schools.

This program highlights the Diamondbacks’ belief that academic success deserves to be celebrated just as much as athletic achievement.

The 50/50 Raffle

Another fan-favorite initiative is the 50/50 Raffle held during every home game. Fans purchase raffle tickets, with half the proceeds going to a selected charity and the other half awarded to one lucky ticket holder.

When you’re hunting for bargains this holiday season, your spare change could do more than jingle in your pocket—it could put food on a neighbor’s table. Ollie’s Bargain Outlet is launching its sixth annual hOLLIEday Caring campaign, partnering with Feeding America® to give shoppers an easy way to fight hunger right at the register. From December 7th through December 24th, customers can round up their purchases to support local food banks in communities where Ollie’s stores operate. It’s a small gesture that adds up fast—over the past five years, these round-ups have generated more than $4 million for families facing food insecurity.

Why This Campaign Matters More Than Ever

Food insecurity isn’t just a holiday problem—it’s a year-round crisis that intensifies when the calendar turns to November and December. Rising costs for food, housing, and healthcare have pushed millions of Americans into impossible choices: pay the electric bill or buy groceries? Fill a prescription or feed the kids? The Feeding America network has responded to this growing need by rescuing more than 4 billion pounds of wholesome food over the past year. But as demand increases, so does the pressure on food banks to keep shelves stocked and families fed. “The holidays can be a particularly challenging period for those in need and the food banks that support them,” the campaign announcement notes. “This is a time when families are forced to choose between food and other necessity items, food banks face rising demand, and families nationwide are turning to the Feeding America network of partner food banks to help make ends meet.”

How Round-Ups Create Real Impact

The beauty of Ollie’s hOLLIEday Caring campaign lies in its simplicity. There’s no complicated donation process, no separate transaction, no guilt-inducing ask at the checkout. Just a quick question: would you like to round up your purchase? That extra 37 cents or 82 cents might not seem like much in the moment, but multiply it across hundreds of thousands of transactions at 613 stores in 34 states, and suddenly you’re talking about meaningful resources for local food banks. “Our hOLLIEday Caring campaign encourages shoppers to turn spare change into meaningful support that puts food on the table for neighbors and creates the kind of real change and hope families need right now,” said Tom Kuypers, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Ollie’s.
