Hollywood Boulevard Safety and Mobility Project: Enhancing Community Through CicLAvia
Join us on August 18th at CicLAvia: Meet the Hollywoods to celebrate Phase 1 of the Hollywood Boulevard Safety and Mobility Project!
The Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) has been hard at work improving the safety and mobility of one of LA’s most iconic streets—Hollywood Boulevard. Stretching from Gower Street to the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fountain Avenue, this stretch of road is undergoing a transformation aimed at making it safer and more accessible for everyone.

What’s Happening on Hollywood Boulevard?
LADOT’s Hollywood Boulevard Safety and Mobility Project is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to create safer, more walkable communities. The project includes the installation of new bike lanes, crosswalk enhancements, and other street improvements designed to protect pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike.
Construction on Phase 1 of this project is now complete! This initial phase focused on Hollywood Boulevard between Gower Street and the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fountain Avenue. With these upgrades in place, residents and visitors can look forward to a more user-friendly and vibrant Hollywood Boulevard.
But the work doesn’t stop there—Phase 2 is on the horizon, extending the improvements along Sunset Boulevard to Fountain Avenue. This next phase promises to build on the successes of Phase 1, further enhancing safety and mobility for all.

Celebrate with CicLAvia: Meet the Hollywoods
To mark the completion of Phase 1 and to bring the community together, LADOT is joining forces with CicLAvia for a special event: CicLAvia—Meet the Hollywoods on Sunday, August 18th, 2024.
CicLAvia is one of Los Angeles’ most beloved traditions, transforming streets into car-free spaces where people can walk, bike, skate, and explore their neighborhoods in a new way. Since its inception, CicLAvia has hosted 54 events across the city, each one offering a unique opportunity for Angelenos to connect with their community and enjoy the city’s diverse urban landscape.
This upcoming event, presented by Metro, will connect East and West Hollywood, creating a seamless, vehicle-free route that showcases the best of both neighborhoods. From 9 AM to 4 PM, participants can freely explore the area, enjoying the safety and mobility improvements firsthand.
What You Need to Know About CicLAvia
If you’re new to CicLAvia, here’s a quick guide to help you get the most out of the event:
• It’s Free: CicLAvia is open to everyone at no cost.
• All-Day Fun: The event runs from 9 AM to 4 PM, so you have plenty of time to explore.
• No Start or Finish Line: You can begin and end your day wherever you like. It’s all about enjoying the experience at your own pace.
• People-Powered Vehicles Only: CicLAvia is a celebration of people power. Bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades, and walking are encouraged, but motorized vehicles are not allowed, with the exception of motorized wheelchairs and similar devices for participants with disabilities.
• E-Bike Rules: Class 1 e-bikes with pedal-assist are allowed, as are Class 2 e-bikes with the throttle powered off. Class 3 e-bikes are welcome when pedal-assist is powered off.
CicLAvia is more than just a street event—it’s a statement about the future of mobility in Los Angeles. By participating, you’re not only celebrating the completion of the first phase of the Hollywood Boulevard Safety and Mobility Project but also supporting a vision of safer, more sustainable streets for everyone.
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate the completion of Phase 1, anticipation builds for the continued improvements along Sunset Boulevard. LADOT’s work on Hollywood Boulevard is a testament to the city’s commitment to creating a safer, more accessible environment for all who live, work, and visit here.
Join us on August 18th at CicLAvia: Meet the Hollywoods and be part of the transformation. Together, we can make Los Angeles a city where streets are not just for cars, but for people—where safety and mobility are priorities, and where community spirit thrives.

The Role of Bike Lanes in Shaping Modern Urban Development
Bike lanes in urban areas promote sustainability, improve mobility, boost economic growth, enhance public health, and increase property values, symbolizing a shift toward inclusive community-focused city planning.

As cities continue to grow and urban spaces evolve, the integration of bike lanes has emerged as a transformative element in urban development. Beyond just providing a space for cyclists, bike lanes symbolize a shift toward sustainable, inclusive, and community-focused city planning.
- Sustainability and Environmental Benefits
Bike lanes contribute to reducing carbon emissions by encouraging more people to opt for cycling over driving. This not only lowers air pollution but also supports greener urban environments. - Improved Urban Mobility
Cities with well-designed bike lane networks experience enhanced traffic flow. By reducing congestion and offering safe zones for cyclists, bike lanes create a more balanced transportation ecosystem. - Economic Growth
Bike-friendly cities often see increased local business activity. Cyclists are more likely to stop and shop at small businesses along their routes, boosting neighborhood economies. - Health and Community Well-being
Encouraging cycling promotes physical activity, improving public health. Additionally, bike lanes foster a sense of community by creating shared, accessible spaces for all residents. - Urban Aesthetic and Property Value
Bike lanes enhance the visual appeal of cities and often lead to increased property values in surrounding areas. They signal modern, forward-thinking development, attracting young professionals and families. - Bike lanes are more than just pavement—they are investments in a city’s future. By prioritizing sustainable transit, healthier lifestyles, and economic growth, urban planners can create cities that thrive for generations. To embrace the future of urban living, integrating bike lanes into development plans must remain a top priority.
Call to Action

Inglewood Shifts Gears: From People Mover to Dedicated Bus Lanes

Inglewood, California, is taking a new approach to enhance mobility as plans for an ambitious automated people mover falter. On Tuesday, city officials announced a strategic pivot from the Inglewood Transit Connector’s original vision—a fully automated elevated system—to a more practical solution centered around dedicated bus lanes. This shift aims to bolster transit connections between local hubs and the city’s thriving sports and entertainment district.
Inglewood Transit Project
The revised project intends to transform the urban landscape over the next few years. Residents and visitors can look forward to the rollout of new mobility hubs dedicated solely to buses, separate lanes to ensure efficient transit, expanded bike infrastructure, and improved overall traffic flow. Furthermore, upgrades to walkability are including features designed to accommodate the influx of attendees for events at major venues like SoFi Stadium, YouTube Theater, Intuit Dome, and the Kia Forum.
Originally, the Inglewood Transit Connector sought to seamlessly link the Downtown Inglewood Metro station on the K Line with the rapidly developing sports and entertainment area. However, the ambitious people mover project faced significant challenges. Local officials, community members concerned about business displacement, and prominent figures like U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters voiced their apprehensions, ultimately leading to the project’s cancellation.
This strategic pivot signifies a more pragmatic approach to transit solutions in Inglewood. By focusing on dedicated bus lanes, the city can effectively improve access to its bustling attractions without the complexities and potential disruptions associated with constructing an elevated system.
The transition underscores Inglewood’s commitment to enhancing urban mobility, catering to both the local residents and the increasing number of visitors drawn to its vibrant entertainment scene. As the city embraces this new direction, the focus remains steadfast on creating a more connected, accessible infrastructure that meets the needs of its community.
Inglewood’s dedication to improving transit connections exemplifies a growing trend in urban planning—prioritizing adaptable solutions that can be implemented quickly while still serving the long-term goals of connectivity and sustainability. The dedicated bus lanes, complemented by enhanced bike paths and improved pedestrian walkways, will offer a holistic approach to transportation that can keep pace with Inglewood’s dynamic growth.
As the city moves forward with these changes, all eyes will be on Inglewood to see how this revised plan enhances community connectivity while supporting its vibrant cultural and entertainment district.

New Construction Project at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, a major transportation hub in Arizona, is set to undergo significant improvements with a new construction project at Terminal 3. According to AZ Family, the work is officially commencing this month on a project that will enhance the airport’s infrastructure, making it more accommodating for travelers.
Expansion at Sky Harbor
The upcoming expansion, which boasts a budget of $326 million, will introduce a new concourse on the north side of Terminal 3. This new addition is designed to increase the terminal’s capacity by adding six new passenger gates, bringing the total to 26 gates. The construction will encompass a vast 173,000 square feet, ultimately providing more flight options and enhanced facilities for travelers.
As reported by AZ Central, the expansion is much-needed, given that Terminal 3 is the oldest terminal at Sky Harbor. McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. has been entrusted with the construction, and they are committed to creating an exceptional experience for passengers. Thomas Assante, McCarthy’s senior project director, stated, “Every portion of the new Terminal 3 concourse will provide an exceptional experience for Sky Harbor passengers.” Notably, McCarthy has experience with airport projects, having recently completed a five-gate concourse at Mesa Gateway Airport, which opened in February 2024.
In addition to expanding gate capacity, the new Terminal 3 concourse plans to feature improvements beyond functionality. Travelers can look forward to new dining options, including three food and beverage spaces, as well as two retail spaces, alongside a passenger lounge. Greg Roybal, an airport spokesman, has confirmed these plans, emphasizing the project’s focus on improving the overall passenger experience.
The anticipated completion date for the new concourse is set for 2027. Once finished, this expansion will not only bolster the terminal’s capabilities but also enhance the amenities available to travelers. The airlines currently operating out of Terminal 3 include Delta, United, Frontier, and Alaska Airlines, among others.
As this construction project unfolds, we will keep readers updated with the latest developments and milestones. With these enhancements on the horizon, Sky Harbor Airport is poised to deliver an even better travel experience for passengers in the coming years. Stay tuned!
