Wehah Farms, based in Richvale, CA, has initiated a recall of Lundberg Family Farms Sustainable Wild Blend Gourmet Rice due to potential contamination with a “foreign object that appears to be of rodent origin.” This alarming news was first announced by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on May 10, 2024, and it has since been classified as a “Class II” recall. According to the FDA, this classification indicates that while the product may cause temporary or medically reversible health consequences, the probability of serious adverse health effects is considered remote.

In total, 4,600 cases of rice, each containing six 1-pound poly bags, have been recalled. Consumers should be on the lookout for packages bearing the lot code 231004 and a best before date of October 4, 2024. The affected rice was distributed across several states, including Arizona, California, Florida, Maine, New Hampshire, Oregon, and Wisconsin.

The S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Competition has launched its seventh edition, opening applications worldwide starting February 16. The program is designed to identify and support the next generation of culinary talent—not just with a trophy at the end, but with mentorship, visibility, and a pathway into the global fine-dining conversation.

Applications are open for four months, closing June 9, 2026, through the official platform at sanpellegrinoyoungchefacademy.com.

More than a contest: a platform for young chefs

S.Pellegrino positions the Young Chef Academy as more than a competition. It’s a development pipeline—a way to help emerging chefs sharpen their voice, pressure-test their ideas, and connect with influential figures in gastronomy.

The Academy emphasizes three core judging elements throughout the process:

  • Technical skill
  • Creativity

How the competition works

  3. Chefs compete in 15 Regional Finals
  4. Regional winners advance to the Grand Finale
