Garner hotels reaches exciting growth milestones

ATLANTA /PRNewswire/ — IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG), one of the world’s leading hotel companies, welcomes guests to experience a relaxed and purposefully different stay – where quality meets affordability. Garner hotels – a new midscale brand made with character – reaches exciting growth milestones with two new U.S. openings in Macon, Ga., and Oklahoma City, Okla., as well as plans for global expansion now underway.

Garner is positioning itself as a leader in the midscale conversion space. Introduced in August 2023, Garner opened its first property last December in the Seattle suburb of Auburn, Wash. within three months of its on sale date. Since then, franchising availability has been announced for Mexico and Canada will be available by the end of March. Plans to expand across the EMEAA region (Europe, Middle East, Asia and Africa) are also underway with a recent LOI signing in Japan between IHG and Axe Management Partners to convert three hotels to the Garner brand in Osaka.

Garner’s recent milestone openings and signings represent the latest progress in the brand’s plan to open more than 500 hotels in the U.S. alone over the next decade. These properties include:

  • Garner Hotel Macon West, operating under first-time IHG owner Sapphire 2021 LLC, opened at the end of 2023. The 63-room hotel is adjacent to Rhythm and Rally Sports and Events Center – the largest indoor pickleball facility in the world.
  • Garner Hotel Oklahoma City – Quail Springs, operating under longtime owner Champion Hotels – the largest privately-owned hotel operator in the U.S., opened at the end of last month. The 68-room hotel is conveniently located near Quail Springs Mall, Lake Hefner, and Remington Park Racetrack and Casino Area.
  • Garner also is quickly catching the eye of new and existing IHG owners, with recent signings in Topeka, Kans.; Provo, Utah; Brenham, Texas; Mahwah, N.J.; Dowell, Ill.; Gillette, Wyo.; and Clarksville, Tenn.

Each new opening will deliver Garner’s ‘everything for your anywhere’ premise of prioritizing guests’ core needs at an affordable price point with a commitment to top-notch service.

How to Support Your Pet’s Health During Summer

(Family Features) As a pet parent, you know your pet’s needs are continually evolving. That’s true during different stages of growth and even as the seasons change.

Part of supporting your pet throughout the year is understanding the specific risks that come with changing weather and special seasonal events. Supporting pets this summer can be easier with these tips:

Summer Health Concerns
It may be an exciting time of year for humans with all the extra activities, seasonal celebrations and travel, but those summer pastimes can add up to a whole lot of stress for pets. In addition, environmental factors like allergens and heat can affect them more than you realize.

  • Allergies: Pets can be affected by many of the same allergens as humans, including grass, pollen and other vegetation that is more prevalent during warmer months. Watch for signs of trouble such as scratching, chewing, watery eyes and general discomfort. Veterinarians can offer advice on allergy support and supplements appropriate for your pet’s age, breed and size.
  • Fireworks: Summer tends to bring more loud noise and commotion in general, but this is especially true around the Fourth of July when explosions become the norm. If pets are fearful, it’s especially important to ensure they stay in well-secured areas since fireworks are a common cause of pets running away. If possible, find a safe spot within your house where outside noises are muffled. Provide some comfort items and check on them regularly. If they seem extremely distressed, vet-recommended anxiety treatments and supplements can help promote relaxation and soothe their nerves.
  • Travel: If your pet suffers from separation anxiety, summer trips can be especially problematic. One solution is to take your pet with you, but that’s not always practical or even possible. When pets with separation anxiety stay behind, it’s a good idea to leave them with someone they know, and even better if that person can stay in your home so pets are in familiar surroundings. If that’s not an option, introducing pets to their caretaker or doing a trial run at the kennel can help ease their nerves.   • Dehydration: Just like humans, hotter temperatures make it easier to get dehydrated, which can lead to myriad health concerns. Ensure pets have access to fresh, clean and cool water at all times and be sure to alert your veterinarian if you notice any changes in their interest in drinking, as that can signal an issue. Also watch for signs of dehydration, such as weakness, less energy, changes in appetite and panting.

Managing Activity Levels
During the summer months, pets may be tempted to take it easy in the heat, or you may have the opposite problem: a pet that’s a little too active for the elements. Monitoring their activity level is important to ensure they don’t get overheated but also get adequate exercise to maintain a healthy weight and keep muscle tone strong. Make an Impact This Earth Day: 5 steps to plant a tree

Choose the Right Tree and Location
Depending on where you live and your desired outcome, choosing the right tree and planting location are critical factors. Larger shade trees help cool homes in warmer climates, evergreens provide privacy and fruit trees offer a grocery store right in your backyard. Consider your available space along with conditions that will impact the tree itself, such as soil conditions, sun exposure, drainage and more.

Dig Safely
Before digging, remember that proper tree placement requires factoring in underground utility lines, overhead power lines and proximity to sidewalks, driveways and homes. Dial 811, the national call-before-you-dig number, to locate underground utilities and consider contacting an arborist or tree care professional to make sure you’ve weighed all the important factors.

Break Ground
Dig a hole that’s roughly 2-3 times wider than the root ball of your tree and equally as deep as the root ball. Be sure the trunk flare (where the trunk expands at the base of the tree) is partially visible when planted. Remove any wrapping or cover from the root ball and trunk. Lift from the root ball, not the trunk, to place in the hole then straighten vertically and firmly backfill soil around the root ball to stabilize.

Add Mulch
Mulching helps maintain moisture and improve soil conditions while controlling weed growth. Place a 2-3-inch layer in a 3-foot radius around the base of the tree without touching the trunk itself.

Keep Soil Moist
Make sure your tree has enough water to grow strong by keeping the soil moist. Typically, this means watering just once per week, barring rain, but may require more frequency during especially hot weather.
