(Family Features) From kickoff to the final whistle, taking your game day party to the next level starts with serving an all-star lineup of menu items. From starting-caliber appetizers to MVP-level main courses and a supporting cast of side dishes, dips like salsa and hummus can play the role of superstar when it comes to serving up game day grub.

One of the benefits of cheering on your favorite teams from the couch and bringing the tailgate to your literal home field is the availability of appliances you may not otherwise have access to at the stadium like the oven or air fryer. However, that doesn’t mean missing out on the action and being sidelined in the kitchen all game or that these recipes won’t travel to a tailgate.

With a flavor-packed, vibrant recipe, the lineup of Fresh Cravings Salsa offers a homemade-tasting alternative to softer, duller blends of jarred salsa. Made with high-quality ingredients like vine-ripened tomatoes, crisp vegetables, zesty peppers and spices, the salsas make a perfect addition to these recipes from celebrity chef and entertainer George Duran, author of “Take This Dish and Twist It” and host of Food Network’s “Ham on the Street” and TLC’s “Ultimate Cake Off.”

Kickoff your menu with an app like these Jalapeno Bacon and Salsa Biscuit Bites that meld together traditional tailgate tastes. Then put a Tex-Mex twist on a traditional favorite with this Enchilada Lasagna, perfect for feeding a crowd of hungry fans.

To round out the playbook, this Layered Mediterranean Hummus Salad can make for an accompaniment to a variety of main courses. The cucumbers, olives, cherry tomatoes and other veggies are balanced by the savory taste of Fresh Cravings Hummus. Made with a short list of high-quality ingredients like chickpeas, tahini and Chilean extra-virgin olive oil, it has a smooth, creamy mouthfeel.

Try this easy homemade barbecue sauce recipe! Elevate your grilling game with fresh flavors and no preservatives. 🍖🌟 #BBQ #HomemadeSauce

Glass bowl of barbecue sauce

There’s something incredibly satisfying about cooking from scratch. Whether you’re preparing a meal for family, hosting a barbecue with friends, or simply craving something delicious, homemade sauces can elevate your dishes to the next level. Today, I’m excited to share an easy and versatile recipe for homemade barbecue sauce that you can whip up in no time!

Why Homemade Barbecue Sauce?

Store-bought barbecue sauces often contain preservatives, artificial flavors, and excess sugar. Making your barbecue sauce at home allows you to control the ingredients, customize the flavors to your liking, and avoid any additives. Plus, there’s nothing quite like the aroma of freshly made sauce wafting through your kitchen!

Ingredients You’ll Need

To make this delightful barbecue sauce, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

These common kitchen staples come together to create a rich and flavorful sauce that pairs perfectly with grilled meats, veggies, and even as a dipping sauce!

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, mix together the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard.
  2. Add Spices: Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika (if you want a hint of smokiness), and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Cook the Sauce: Place the saucepan over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally to avoid sticking.
  4. Simmer: Let the sauce simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until it thickens slightly. Remember to stir occasionally.
  5. Taste and Adjust: Once cooked, taste your sauce and feel free to adjust the ingredients. If you prefer a sweeter sauce, add more brown sugar. For a tangier flavor, increase the apple cider vinegar.
  6. Cool and Store: After simmering, remove the sauce from the heat and allow it to cool. Transfer it to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Enjoy Your Barbecue Sauce!

Now that you have your homemade barbecue sauce, it’s time to put it to good use! Whether you’re slathering it on ribs, chicken, or even grilled veggies, the possibilities are endless. You can also use it as a dip for appetizers like chicken wings or fries.

In conclusion, making your barbecue sauce is not only easy but also a fun way to enhance your cooking. So grab those ingredients, roll up your sleeves, and enjoy the process of creating something delicious from scratch. Happy cooking!
